Energy and Space

It is said that cleanliness is next to godliness, and happiness can be had if we simply clear our clutter. Those of us inclined to a more complicated view of the simple art of living may find ourselves interested in the Chinese art of space and placement, feng shui; or the ancient Vedic technique known as Vaastu Shastra. Both of these methods have something to offer the motivated individual interested in developing harmony within the physical space. But some may be put off by the foreignness of these techniques. For those of us inclined to astrology, the modern method of local space astrology can give a fascinating and unique opportunity to explore the wide world of geomancy.

Local space astrology(LS) is a method that maps a moment in time in a different coordinate system than the traditional horoscope wheel. Instead of reflecting the positions of the planets as they relate to the horizon, above and below us, LS charts are made with the measurement of azimuth. Azimuth deals with the horizon as it exist in relationship to the compass. If you pointed your finger and turned in a circle, you would be describing the horizon in azimuth. The world around us.

A LS chart allows an astrologer to see the directions the planets are influencing in a horoscope, which may show some interesting differences from a traditional wheel. Planets placed on the 4 cardinal directions will express themselves in the life and character of individuals.

Also, an LS chart can be laid out in the home, and describe the energy of an individual in a live/work space. An example: If you place a telephone along a Saturn line, this will constrict the influx of communication. Better to place the phone along a Mercury or Jupiter line if you thrive on communication. If you like to sleep soundly, placing the bed along a Mars line won’t be much help. It may increase sexual activity, but doesn’t lend itself to restful sleep. Placing your bed along a Neptune line may increase the intensity of dreams, but might not be an ideal place for a computer or home office.

This chart shows a recent full moon. Note the strength of Mars on the descendent, and the Sun and Moon along the 4/10 axis. In a LS chart calculated for the same place(below), Neptune appears in a position of strength, due east. Notice how this LS chart is drawn with accurate orientation, with east on the right hand side, south towards the bottom and north at the top. Traditional horoscopes are drawn backward with the eastern horizon on the left side of the wheel. Looking at the LS wheel it is also easy to see the different angles between the planets. Unlike a traditional horoscope, when a LS chart is made for the same moment in different places, the angular relationships can change.
